This year, we had the privilege of combining medicine, film, and dance during our second surgical mission to Chad.
The team included Dr. Marc Garcia-Elias working alongside the surgical team in Chad, Fina Sensada documenting the mission, and Nacho Duato providing rehabilitation through conscious movement and gait re-education.
2ND SURGICAL EXPEDITION TO DOBA (THE MISSION)
This year, the surgical mission in Doba was complemented by an awareness-raising and staff training initiative at our collaborating hospital, as well as an official presentation of the mission to the local Ministry of Health delegate.
Members of the Foundation met with Dr. Ali Soumaine Baggarโthe Ministry of Healthโs Public Health Delegate for Logone Orientalโto present our humanitarian surgical work with children with disabilities in the region.

The Foundation has entered into its first partnership agreement with Dr. Herve, the director of the Doba Provincial Hospital, to rent an operating room and hire the center’s staff to perform surgeries. Due to power supply issues at the facility, the Foundation has undertaken the cost of the fuel needed to run the generator during operating hours.

In addition, Dr. Garcรญa-Elias has provided general medicine training to the hospital’s medical staff, with each participant receiving an official FFF certificate of attendance.

The Doba Center for the Disabled and our counterpart, the director Sister Mabel, have conducted patient consultationsโinvolving children sought out across various villages over the course of a year in collaboration with local missionariesโand have managed the postoperative care and rehabilitation of the patients who underwent surgery.

This year, Jairoโan IT specialist from Colombia and brother of a team memberโjoined the team as a volunteer. He arrived in Chad a year ago. He is responsible for providing computer training at the Doba group home, which houses 15 adolescents with disabilities who have already undergone surgery. They live next to the Doba Center for People with Disabilities, where they learn trades such as sewing, mechanics, cooking, electrical work, and carpentry. Jairo has introduced computer classes, but they need three computers for hands-on practice.
These 15 young men and women manufacture wooden crutches for the children at the center. Having received the necessary training, these young people with disabilities will eventually take over the management of the Doba Center for People with Disabilities, currently led by Sister Mabel.
Additionally, Jairo has developed a custom software program for both the Center for People with Disabilities and the surgical mission.
HECHOS EXTRAORDINARIOS DE LA EXPEDICIรN QUIRURGICA – 26 AL CHAD
