Surgical expedition was made to Doba, Chad from January 8th to 18th. 32 children underwent surgery; 75 new consultations were performed; and a list of 35 children for the next mission was compiled.
RAISING AWARENESS:
At the European University of Valencia, a presentation of FFF was made “Hands that Heal, Eyes that See, Feet that Dance” and given by Dr. Marc Garcia-Elias, Mrs. Fina Sensada, and Mr. Nacho Duato.

RAISING AWARENESS:
Mawj sends a series of 20 poems in Arabic to FFF as his way of collaborating with the possibility of publishing a book. A Professor at the University of Barcelona in Arabic Philology translated these poems into Catalan in 2021.
Khadija, former collaborator of the Foundation, is currently translating Mawj’s poems into Spanish.
This year in 2025, Lupe Bohorques, a poet from the European University of Valencia will be in charge of publishing and printing the poems.
Upcoming Activities
APRIL
Ther will be a special Presentation of the Fernando Fonseca Foundation in the United States at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York by Dr. Marc Garcia-Elias/ Fina Sensada/ Jordi Torrent/ Flavia Galuppo with a screening of 2 informative videos on the foundation’s work.
Also, on the same day,a conference will be held at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York by FFF entitled “The Fernando Fonseca Foundation: A Humanitarian Project Aimed at Children with Hand/Foot Problems Secondary to Untreated Polio.” Location: The Menschel Auditorium of the Hospital for Special Surgery in NY at the main hospital 2nd Floor/NYSSH.


COMMUNICATION:
Participation in an interview for a future documentary by Nacho Duato, featuring Fina and Marc.
Nacho Duato presents the “conscious movement in rehabilitation” project and confirms his active participation in the upcoming expedition to Chad to work alongside the center’s orthopedist in the rehabilitation process of children who underwent surgery.
NEW PROPOSAL FOR THE PETAL OF COMMUNICATION: POETRY
Proposal to Lupe Bohorques, poet and professor at the European University of Valencia, to start a campaign for FFF with the poetry “Almas que escriben” (Writing Souls). And a proposal to publish 20 poems by Mawj, a war-wounded young lady from Baghdad.
FINANCING:
The annual Pyrenean dance festival, “Dansàneu,” chooses to participate again with the Foundation and its director, Rut Martinez, decides to contribute 50% of the tickets proceeds from the opening night of the Dansaneu Festival to FFF.
SOCIAL OUTREACH/INTERNATIONAL TRAINING:
Celebration of the SEGMA-BSSH Hand Surgery Congress in Mallorca, where a special tribute was paid to Dr. Marc Garcia-Elias and his professional career. He also reminded the 1,000 attending surgeons of his new third stage of life- training African surgeons and his humanitarian work with FFF for the children of Chad.

FUNDRAISING:
FFF once again enters the “HP Charity Day” competition. Two of the company’s ambassadors, Marc and Alba, represent us.
SOCIAL OUTREACH/INTERNATIONAL TRAINING:
Dr. Marc Garcia-Elias is invited to participate in training courses at the 77th Annual International Congress of the Egyptian Orthopaedic Association. At this time, he also introduces FFF and its medical training initiatives to the Egyptian surgeons present at the conference.

COLABORATION WITH BAGHDAD- “AN ELBOW FOR MAWJ”:
- “An Elbow for Mawj” Project. Mawj Olabaidi is a war-wounded patient in Baghdad. After following up online on Mawj’s arm problem, due to the lack of an elbow and persistent pain, Dr. Marc Garcia-Elias meets with two specialists from his surgical team in Barcelona to make a decision. The decision is to design an external prosthesis which will serve as a temporary measure before performing the complicated surgical procedure necessary for Mawj to regain functionality of her prosthetic arm.
RAISING AWARENESS:
Meeting at the SOM association in Solsona to present the foundation and project.
The SOM association confirms its participation in our Foundation to help fund the “Stand Up a Child” project and proposes a charity concert, a screening of the film Chanceline, and awareness-raising events in Solsona schools.
Awareness-raising sessions are held at the Sant Jordi School in Navàs.
Lecture is held at the Navàs Library by Marc Garcia-Elias and Fina Sensada (Summary of Expedition-25 Chad).

- Financing of the “Water for Mberi” project: A well for water is drilled for Sister Vasantha’s school with 300 children in southern Chad. Private funding was provided by the Foundation’s patrons and special collaborators.
CHANCELINE’S PROSTHESES
- Fabrication and restoration of two leg prostheses for Chanceline in Dakar by Philipe, Dr. Djilouba’s orthopedic technician.
FILM/POETRY:
Dr. Donald Sammud, a hand surgeon from London, has offered to participate in the Foundation’s translation of the script “Fernando and Ali” into British English. The final touches from our friend and collaborator Flavia Galuppo from New York will be needed to achieve a successful American English translation.
Confirmation of the publication of a book of poems by Mawj (Arabic/Spanish) by Ole Libros Publishing House for 2026, with presentations in Valencia and Barcelona and distribution throughout Spain.
MEDICAL TRAINING:
- We begin the third year of medical training for African surgeons, coordinated by Dr. Djilouba Beninga (Senegal) and Dr. Garcia-Elias (Barcelona). Special guest: Dr. Kire from Senegal, African clubfoot specialist.

FUNDRAISING:
HP Charity Day announces prize winners. We are not eligible for the first prize this year as we already won first prize in the previous year. However, we have been selected as a prize winner and were informed that there will be a monetary contribution to our project.
Concert/Performance held in Dansaneu, Sant Joan de Isis. Emma Vilarasau and Jordi Bosch transport us to a mythological past with the story of Venus and Adonison, through Shakespeare’s poem, accompanied by the prestigious cellist Lluís Claret with excerpts from J.S. Bach. Fifty percent of the proceeds of the ticket sales were generously donated to FFF’s “Stand up a Child project.

The organizing group of HP Charity Day proposes that we present the book “Amigo” and read it on Charity Day, October 4th, to raise awareness among its employees and their families.

SOCIAL:
AGOT—The Guatemalan Association of Orthopedics and Traumatology Congress invites Dr. Marc Garcia-Elias to provide training in Guatemala and present his work with the FFF Foundation.
Dr. Vergara, a Colombian hand surgeon and volunteer in his country, offers to teach a training course on “congenital hand deformity in children” to African surgeons next fall.
FILM/POETRY:
• Translation of poems by Mawj by Khadija Ouaryach from Baghdad from Arabic into Spanish. Fina assumes personal financing for this translation. Mawj’s poems are delivered to a publisher to begin the process of layout, printing, release, and distribution of books with a single goal: to help Mawj and her family. Book cover design pending.

The “Water for Mberi” well project has been successfully accomplished. The well is completed, and there is abundant water for the 300 children at the school run by Sister Vasantha, the Indian Missionary Sisters’ home, and the Mberi Health Center run by Sister Rita.

Chanceline’s prostheses have been properly restored.
FILM/POETRY:
Nacho Duato confirms his participation in the Mawj poetry project and he designs a drawing for the cover of the book, which will be called “Huellas” (Footprints).
FUNDRAISING:
Beth’s concert is held in Solsona for the “Stand Up a Child” project organized by SOM.
We raised €2,000 from the Dansaneu concert- of which €1,865.31 came from 50% of the total ticket revenue, and €134.31 from a personal donation made by Rut Martinez and her husband Joan.
Preparation of the international and national “Stand Up a Child” project fundraiser by Jordi Torrent, a friend and collaborator from NY, to raise funds for the next expedition, launching in October 2025. Includes production of new Video Clip.
COMMUNICATION:

This year, we were privileged to receive a second prize from HP Charity Day as an additional gift for their award-winning projects. HP generously gave us €11,000 for our project “Stand up a child – 2026.” * International/National crowdfunding presentation “Stand up a Child” will be launched now in October 2025 on “GoFundMe” to raise the remaining funds, which will be used entirely for the second surgical mission to Chad in 2026.
